Ever since the release of Joker in 2019, fans have wanted more of the DC’s villainous character. How rare is it for a villain to gain such massive fandom? With the shooting for the new Joker movie completed before time, Warner Bros announced that Joker: Folie à Deux will have its theatrical release on 4 October 2024.
After Phoenix won the much-deserved Oscar for Joker it looked like the end of it. A supervillain movie with an amazing actor that goes viral and earns recognition but what beyond that? And this question has made us even more restless as the bar of expectations is sky-high.
The Cast of Joker 2. Who Will Star in Joker: Folie à Deux?
Joaquin Phoenix reprising his role for Joker Folie à Deux has got us more than excited. But you know what has got me screaming and running and maybe banging my head against a wall level of excitement? LADY GAGA! Lady Gaga will play Harley Quinn, the love interest of Joker.
The makers took to social media to share a glimpse of the actors sharing a screen on the occasion of Valentine’s Day. (Don’t tell my therapist I am shipping this toxic couple. But hey, can you blame me?)
Fans are used to seeing Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and the character is credited as one of Margot Robbie’s best performances. But since Joker Folie à Deux does not clash with any other DC movie’s timeline you can enjoy Lady Gaga’s performance as a standalone.
When asked about Lady Gaga’s casting as Harley Quinn in Joker 2, Margot stated, “It’s such an honor to have built a foundation strong enough that Harley can now be one of those characters that other actors get to have a go at playing, and I think she’ll do something incredible with it.”
It is still not confirmed if we will see Bruce Wayne in the story but Zazie Beetz’s character of Sophie will make a comeback. Other Joker cast that have been confirmed include, Harry Lawtey, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Brendon Gleeson.
Is Joker: Folie à Deux a Musical?
With the anticipation around the new Joker movie building up, let us remind you this is in no way like the other superhero movies of these times. The Joaquin Phoenix Joker sequel (Joker 2) is going to be a full-blown musical. Now Lady Gaga’s starring as Harley Quinn makes so much sense, right?
Todd Philip was not playing when he announced the sequel for Joker. By the look of it, Joker: Folie à Deux seems fully prepared to grab some Oscars and Grammys already. Joker 2 is expected to follow Arthur Fleck’s life in the Arkham Asylum where he was admitted by the end of Joker. As far as we know right now, Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn is a fellow patient at the asylum, something we have never seen in the DC movies till now.
Not much is known about the movie right now, but as the title suggests we are guessing the duo will share a bond based on their mental illness. Folie à Deux means “delusion or mental illness shared by two people in close association.”
