The Conjuring (2013)
The movie that started it all. The Conjuring introduced us to the loved paranormal expert couple Lorraine and Ed Warren who laid a strong foundation for all the upcoming Conjuring movies. The couple and their encounters are inspired by the real-life story of the actual couple. The movies are a treat to watch and do full justice to the horror genre but remember they are just inspired and not based on the real story.
The movie is set in 1971 when the Perron family moves to a farmhouse in Rhode Island but soon starts to experience some paranormal activities. The family decides to contact the paranormal experts Ed and Lorraine who unravel some dark and horrifying back story about the house that will send a chill down your spine.

Annabelle (2014)
The second movie released in the franchise is Annabelle but the timeline of the story is set before The Conjuring. The movie is set in Southern California in 1967 and is probably the most famous among all the Conjuring movies. From generations-old tales of cursed dolls to the global phenomenon of Annabelle, haunted dolls have sparked fear and fascination in equal measure. Drawing on a true story, this horror movie has captivated audiences around the world with its chilling tale.
The plot revolves around a couple Mia and John Form who are overjoyed to be expecting their first child. But their joyous days are limited when a satanic cult barges into their home after they bring home a rare vintage doll. The cult leaves the house in chaos and terror, but Mia later learns that they had been trying to conjure up an evil force inside of the Annabelle doll – now menacingly possessed by the entity.

The Conjuring 2 (2016)
As the name suggests, the 2016 release is a sequel to The Conjuring. The movie is based on the well-known case of the Amityville House. When a troubled single mother, Peggy Hodgson, reaches out to the Warren couple as she feels something evil is going on in her home. The Warrens decide to help out the family when they realize the family’s youngest daughter is under the possession of a demonic spirit.
The Conjuring 2 also introduced the viewers to the demonic nun, Valak.

Annabelle: Creation (2017)
Though the movie was released later, Annabelle: Creation is a prequel to the 2014 release, Annabelle. The plot introduces us to the origin story of the possessed doll. When the happy family of a doll maker, Samuel Mullins, encounters a tragedy where their six-year-old dies, the couple is shattered. After a long gap of 12 years, they welcome home some girls from an orphanage as a way to reconnect with children.
You might have guessed it by now, but what follows is a series of hauntingly deadly events. Despite Smauel’s warning to not enter their deceased daughter’s room, a young girl ends up in the room and unleashes the demonic power of the doll. This was one of the most awaited Annabelle movies and did not disappoint the audience.

The Nun (2019)
Though The Nun was released much later than other Conjuring movies, this is where it all started as per the timeline chronology. Set in 1952 Romania the movie follows the story of an evil Nun. After reports of a nun killing herself, Father Bruke and sister Irene set out to investigate the matter while sister Irene has yet to take her final vows as a nun.
As soon they arrive at the location, they are quick to figure out that centuries-old demon Valak is behind all the mishaps and the worst is yet to come. But it is not just their lives that are at risk but their soul as well. The dialogue ‘God ends here’ is enough to send a chill down my spine even today. What happens when a demon has your soul? Will their faith protect the duo from the clutches of Valak?

The Curse of La Llorona (2019)
This might be the most underrated movie of all the Conjuring movies. The Curse of La Llorona is based on a famous Latin American folklore of a crying woman trying to steal children. The movie is not connected to any other story of the Conjuring Universe but Father Perez from Annabelle makes a brief appearance.
The Curse of La Llorona is set in 1973 where a social worker, Anna, in an attempt to help a mother, Patricia, and her children accidentally unleashes the spirit of La Llorona upon herself. When Patricia loses her children to the spirit, she makes a deal with La Llorona to bring back her dead children in exchange for Anna’s children. Anna should rush against time if she wants to save her children from the evil who has already followed them to their homes.

Annabelle Comes Home (2019)
Annabelle movies have always got horror enthusiasts most excited among all the Conjuring movies and 2019 seems to be the best year for the Conjuring franchise. Annabelle Comes Home picks the story right after the Warren couple brings the cursed doll to their home and keeps it safe in a holy glass cupboard.
But like every other horror story, the evil spirit has to be unleashed for the chaos to begin. The Warren couple has to go out of town and hence leaves their daughter, Judy, with the babysitter, Mary Ellen. But when Mary Ellen’s friend, Daniela arrives at the house they are not aware of what she is there for. Grieving the loss of her father, Daniella, sneaks into the artifacts room trying to connect to the spirit of her father but accidentally unleashes all the evil spirits at once.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)
The last on the list of Conjuring movies in order is the 2021 release, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. The movie follows a case of murder where the culprit, Johnson, claims to be possessed by a demon who made him commit the murder.
The Warrens are called to investigate the claims and discover that the case is similar to the one they have witnessed in the past. The case of murder seems the most complicated and nerve-wracking experience for the paranormal expert couple. The fact that the movie is based on the real case of Arne Cheyenne Johnson, famously known as the “Devil Made Me Do It” case in 1981 is enough to make your your heart race.

The Nun 2 (2023)
The Nun 2 is set for its theatrical release on 7th September, 2023 and our adrenaline level is already rushing. With an R-rating, The Nun 2 is said to be the scariest of all the Conjuring movies. If we are to consider Conjuring movies in order, this one is the sequel to The Nun, released in 2019. The director claimed that the movie is strictly not for children and people with faint hearts as it will surpass the horror level of all the previously released Conjuring movies.

The Conjuring: Last Rites (TBA)
Our query of whether there will be a Conjuring 4 has finally been answered. The Conjuring franchise has confirmed the official name of the movie, that is, The Conjuring: Last Rites. No official release date has been confirmed yet we are assuming the movie to be out in 2024 or by 2025. The trailer for The Conjuring: Last Rites has not yet been released as the movie is still in progress.
The Conjuring TV Show
Fans can rejoice as their favorite movie franchise will soon be available in the form of a TV series. Though not much is known about the Conjuring series right now, we are sure we won’t be disappointed. Since not even the principal photography has started yet, we are not expecting the series to air until 2025. Max has bought the streaming rights of the series.
